Opening-Up Team Communications
How to Encourage Open Discussion About Issues and Candid
Evaluation of Performance
A Challenge faced by all teams is that of identifying team
problems and bringing them to the table for positive resolution. Examining the condition
of an existing team and establishing open communication within it is accomplished in three
simple steps. First, the Johari Window is presented as a visual tool to help understand
the interaction between members of a team. Second, is the identification of methods to tap
the potential of a team. Finally, a generic tool is presented that allows the user to
analyze specific concerns of their team. These steps are presented in a format that is
easily repeatable with team members back on the job. Participants leave with a simple
methodology for team leaders and team members to begin more open communication within
their team.
